La Ligne | Issue 625 | May 2017:
On 21 March, to the surprise of all, the US Department of Homeland Security issued a security directive requiring passengers flying between certain airports from the Near / Middle East or North Africa to the United States to store any electronic device (PED / Personal Electronic Devices) larger than a mobile phone in checked baggage.
Soon after, the British Department of Transport issued a similar instruction applying to direct links between six countries (Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Tunisia) and the United Kingdom. This instruction specified the maximum size acceptable for personal electronic devices being transported in the cabin as being 16 cm long, 9.3 cm wide and 1.5 cm thick.
The vice-chairman of the FALPA “Dangerous Goods” Commission, also a member of Cometec, gives an update on the regulations in force in an article in La Ligne.
