XINING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) — A living biobank was set up in northwest China’s Qinghai Province on Wednesday.
The living biobank is in Dulan County on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The county is home to 43 species of endangered animals including Tibetan antelope, snow leopard and black-neck crane.
The biobank was built by the Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI) to protect the various species of plants and animals on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and facilitate research on biotic resources.
BGI, a non-profit research institution in China founded in 1999, is the world’s largest genomics organization, according to its official website.
