With an area of about 400 square kilometers, the Purog Kangri glacier in Tibet is considered to be the third largest glacier in the world.

It is melting at an accelerated rate, which has caused the formation of plenty of rivers and lakes, according to a researcher of Chinese Academy of Sciences.(Xinhua/Liu Dongjun)
