Argentina has started building the Riachuelo Plant sub-fluvial sewage pipe which is expected to benefit 5mn people in Buenos Aires province.

The government said in a press release the initiative is the most important of its kind in the province in the past 70 years. The new system will be able to transport 2.3Mm3 of water per day, said the government.

The project requires an investment of US$1.2bn and will be partly financed by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), a subsidiary of the World Bank.
