Iconoclastic SpaceX CEO wants to scrap successful Falcon rocket line to fund Mars dream.

SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk says he has fixed a fatal flaw in the interplanetary space transportation system unveiled during last year’s International Astronautical Congress (IAC), namely, how to pay for it.

The 46-year-old tech entrepreneur now plans to phase out his company’s successful Falcon rockets and Dragon capsules in favor of a reusable, two-stage, multipurpose super-heavy-lift launcher that not only can take on the satellite delivery and station resupply flights that keep SpaceX financially viable, but also fly crews and cargo to the Moon and Mars.

The system, called BFR (an acronym for big f***g rocket) also could be used for suborbital, point-to-point travel between destinations on Earth.
